Waxers Gone Wild

3 hour Open Encaustic Studio

with Amalia Tagaris at Gorse Mill studios

The open studio is perfect for students who already have a foundation in encaustic painting and want to get into the studio to work on a project or to just have fun practicing techniques learned in the mini-beginner workshop.  The instructor is available for advice and critiquing during the workshop.

This class is unstructured and is intended to be a time for students to use the studio and its materials as they wish.  The open studio is all about experimenting with and exploring the encaustic medium.

How much does the workshop cost?

The 3 hour open studio workshop is $85 per student.

What time is the workshop?

The workshop runs from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

What is included in class fee?

3 hours of open studio time.

A primed, wood panel ready for encaustic painting.

Instructor guidance and critiquing if requested.

Use of all classroom materials such as waxes, brushes, heat-gun, iron, papers, and assorted tools.

*an extra fee may apply for students using excessive amounts of wax.

*additional primed panels may be purchased.

What should I bring?

You don't have to bring anything unless you have a panel that you’re working on already.

Keep in mind that you will be sharing a work-bench so try to keep panels to a maximum size of 12“x12“.

You may want to bring your own photocopies for image transfers.

You're welcome to bring in your coffee/tea!

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably with clothing you wouldn't mind getting paint on.

You may want to bring your own smock to protect your clothing.

The studio is heated but you may want to bring a sweater just in case.

Also, you'll want to be able to literally "roll up your sleeves" to work.

What time should I show up for class?

Getting to class on-time ensures that you’ll get your three hours of play time in!
